Breaking the Mould: Embracing Authenticity as a Personal Stylist

When you think of a personal stylist, what image comes to mind? If, like most people, you probably picture someone straight out of a fashion magazine—dressed head-to-toe in the latest high-end designer clothes, hair perfectly coiffed, and exuding an aura of glamour. It’s a look that’s often portrayed on TV and in films, where stylists are tall, slim, and always impeccably put together.

But what if that’s not your style?

What if you’re more at home in jeans and a t-shirt than in a power suit with shoulder pads?

As a personal stylist, I’ve felt that pressure—the expectation to look a certain way, to be on the cutting edge of fashion, and to present an image that aligns with the industry’s often over-the-top standards. But the truth is, that’s not me. I’ve been there, done that, and found myself feeling uncomfortable and out of place. The reality is, I’m much more comfortable in casual clothes. I my everyday style reflects that I live in the countryside. I’m not someone who wears lots of makeup, or sports false nails and eyelashes. My style is natural, relaxed, and true to who I am.

And that’s exactly what I want for my clients. I want them to feel comfortable in their clothes, whatever their style may be. My goal as a stylist isn’t to push people into the latest trends or to create a look that’s more about fashion than function. It’s about helping each client discover their own style—one that suits their lifestyle as it is now, not what it was a few years ago.

As we get older, our bodies change, and so do our lives. The clothes that once fit perfectly may no longer work with our changing shapes or lifestyles. Yet, it can be hard to let go of those pieces. Decluttering your wardrobe can feel overwhelming, like admitting defeat, or letting go of the hope that someday you might fit into those clothes again. But here’s the thing: it’s not about giving up. It’s about moving forward.

Finding your style means discovering what makes you feel good right now. It’s about knowing what fits and flatters your current shape and lifestyle, and feeling confident in your clothing choices. You can enjoy life so much more when you feel comfortable in your clothing choices. You’re not spending time worrying about how you look because you know that you not only look fabulous, but you feel fabulous too.

So, let’s break the mould together. Let’s embrace the styles that make us feel good, whatever they may be. Because in the end, true style isn’t about following trends—it’s about being authentic, comfortable, and confident in your own skin.
